Right off of Macmillien Pier, the first big restaurant you see is The Surf Club. Clearly it is super busy during all the peak hours. And for a good reason. The food is very consistent and good. Some may consider it a tourist trap. But I would not. It is seafood right by the water and they do it quite right. Nothing fancy. Simple New England seafood for you.
More often than not, I end up here when I am short on time and need something quick and know the timing would be right to get a table for the group. I have never had any problem at all.
During my last trip, we had a bunch of things. My favs were:
- Clam Chowder: Very creamy as it should be, with good consistency of the clams. I don't like the chowder too thick. The flow makes a big difference
- The steamers: With drawn butter and garlic jus, they were done right. There was no graininess or sand and the quantity was great.
- Seafood platter: I bet this is a high selling platter. Good quantity although I wish there were less fries. I understand fries need to be there but considering the portion of other things, they should have less fries. Everything was crisp, not greasy and I would recommend platter to be shared by 2; I personally can never eat a platter by self.
Final note - this is definitely in the $$$ range. Not sure why it ended up with a $$ price range.
They have enough seating inside and outside. But during great weather, the outside almost always get packed. The inside is not bad but can get muggy on real hot days. 2 full bars: One inside and other outside. Never sat at the bar so no comments on that. Table service staff is quick and efficient. There is almost always a manager doing the rounds making sure everyone is being taken care of well. A safe and easily a good bet for your seafood cravings. -

Disappointing beyond words. Brought a party of 4 on a nice day hoping for some seafood basics. The food was similar to that of what one might microwave. Lacked any flavor to speak of. Soggy fries, undercooked fish, inedible, and cold. I fully agree with the other reviews. The worst establishment in PTown. No service came to our table again after the food was delivered. We had to go inside to finally get the check. Such a poor experience it put a damper on an otherwise gorgeous day. Run, don't walk, to any another restaurant. Burger King may be more enjoyable. Not recommended.

We've stopped here many times. Occasionally it has not come up to expectations, but mostly it is good solid food and drink. It does have one of the best views in town and sitting outside on the deck is wonderful.

Chelsea was or server for the second year in a row and she is awesome. The fish and chips were wonderful, Portuguese soup was warm and tasty, shrimp cocktail with massive shrimp, STRONG drinks and food music. What more could you ask for? Highly recommended and we hope to see you again for the fourth in 2017.

If you're short staffed... Please at least acknowledge your customer. I sat there for half an hour and was never even acknowledged. Finally left.
